It came to my attention this week, while assisting others with their computers, that people are unaware of Google’s Instant Preview and how to use it (even though it was launched last November 2010) . Actually it is sort of a hidden feature, when performing a Google search, that will give you a quick glance (preview of a web page) without having to actually click and open the page up.
To be more instructive on this, take a look at the screenshot below. In this example, I performed a Google search for “whatsonmypc”. After the search results generated, I placed my mouse pointer to the right side of the first result and a pair of arrows appeared (out of nowhere to the right side). If you then hover your mouse pointer on the arrows (do not click), a small version of the page will be generated. You can open the page in full view by simply clicking on it or you can glide your mouse pointer down to the next link to see the small web page displayed of that link and so on and so forth…
I almost always use Google Instant Preview to see what is hiding under the link or to help me quickly find a page I pulled up in the past (and did not bookmark).

I can remember in my teen years we listened to the top forty on the radio and then some years later we became mesmerized with the music videos on cable TV. That was a big thing to us as kids back then… To my younger readers, you are probably thinking I am a hundred years old. Not quite, but you can half that… Today’s post revived some of those memories I had and made me realize just how far we have come in terms of technology.
Yesterday on the blog I featured a FREE Online Utility to Convert YouTube Videos to MP3. During the process of researching and writing that post, I came across another interesting music site, that is powered by Twitter and YouTube, that revived those memories of the top forty and the music videos. It is called Topforty.it where you can become your own DJ.
Simply visit the site, click on the song of your choice to launch the YouTube music video. The music video, with controls, will play at the top of the screen. At that point, you do not have to do anything else. Just let it ride…

There is so much video content on YouTube these days; from music videos to comedy to educational videos, etc…, that it is beyond our level of comprehension and imagination. Oftentimes I will bookmark the videos, not so much to watch them, but to listen to the video (e.g. an educational video) while I am working on my computer. This is all fine and dandy when I have the resources to do that; however, there are instances where I wished I could listen to my favorite videos; especially when I am travelling. It would sure help make the time go by. Let’s face it, watching a video while driving down the road just is not a safe practice.
Well, I came across an online utility that was the answer to my wish. It is called, TuneTune.
To use TuneTune: Simply enter the link to the YouTube Video and click on the “Convert” button. During the conversion, which is quite fast, a visual indicator will appear to indicate at what percentage the video has converted. Following the conversion, click on the “Download” button and enjoy.

This does not get any simpler or basic than this… Go to notepad.cc and you will be looking at a blank page where you can create and save an endless page of notes. No account is required.
When you get to the site, you are automatically assigned your own personal web address, that you can also change (at the bottom of the note page). Make sure you remember the address so that you can access your notes again. Once you get the address you desire, you can share your notepad and even password protect it. If you need another page to save notes, simply type in notepad.cc in your browser and you will be presented with another blank note. I found this app to work perfectly on my Toshiba Thrive Tablet and has come in real handy when I need to jot something down.
