Bookmarks4Techs is Back!

You may have read my recent article, Has Bookmarks4Techs Been Kidnapped or Assassinated?, where the host of the site (Google’s Blogger Service), through an automated classification system removed my sister site (Bookmarks4Techs.com) without warning (for suspicion of SPAM). The only notice I received was this:

Hello, Your blog at http://www.bookmarks4techs.com/has been reviewed and confirmed as in violation of our Terms of Service for: SPAM. In accordance to these terms, we’ve removed the blog and the URL is no longer accessible. For more information, please review the following resources:

Blogger Terms of Service: http://blogger.com/terms.g

Blogger Content Policy: http://blogger.com/go/contentpolicy

-The Blogger Team

Needless to say, after 2 weeks of working through a Google Groups Moderator (who was as polite as a badger), my site at Blogger has not been restored and I do not expect it to be restored. My last communication with the moderator resulted in this response:

Unfortunately, “bookmarks4techs.blogspot.com” was recently confirmed as a spam host.

As a result, I have went back to the drawing board to do a rebuild of Bookmarks4Techs.com.  I have decided to keep it simple and to avoid the complexities I had in place that apparently tripped Google’s automated classification system.

Bookmarks4Techs

Bookmarks4Techs.com is back! I request your patience as I update the site and thank you for your support.

    Rick,
My guess is, you did not use the magic “I’ll let you show ads on Bookmarks4Techs” phrase..

    Wow.
    Polite as a badger..

I don’t blame you for resorting to a workaround. I, for one, am glad you are putting in the work to keep that resource alive and available. Thank you.

      TechPaul,

I got so fed up, I said forget it! Definitely is a good lesson on how our online data can be controlled (and destroyed).

Snow on the way here tonight! Yippee…

      Rick

Opps.., I thought they released Bookmarks4Techs. Silly me…

    • Ramblinrick says:

      Peter,

Nope, they did not release the site. I had various scripts running on the site to pull down fresh information and the automated system apparently saw it differently. Anyhow, I needed something else to mess with anyhow…

    Rick.
Remember what we went through way back during the DOS and the BBS days? Sometimes you say to yourself “Why am I doing this?” Sure bring back many memories!

  4. Rick, I’m glad you’ve gotten things worked out. I’m sure you could have done without the hassle. This issue you’ve dealt with should be a red flag for all of us bloggers. Welcome back.

      Paul,

Google took my site, so I decided to try something else. This whole experience taught me a lesson on quite a few things.

Loving your site… Keep up the great work.

      Rick

    Rick,

A pathetic response from an organization that has disproportionate power. Instead of working with users to correct/eliminate perceived deficiencies – it seems Google’s policy is to just bring down the hammer.

You waged the good fight – sad to hear that it all went for nought.

    Bill

    • Ramblinrick says:

      Bill,

You said it just right! I would have been much happier if there was a process in place to have an online discussion with someone. Oh well, back to the drawing board!

      Snowing there yet?

      Rick

    Rick,

It is too bad that it didn’t work out for you on blogger. I am glad that you are sticking with it though.

    Rick,

I am happy you started Bookmarks4Techs again and this time you hosted it at Google Sites instead of Blogger. Though it’s still under a different Google product but I hope that they will not falsely flag the website again.

I feel really very bad when a legitimate site is marked as spam and nothing is done to rectify the error even after appeals to them for reconsideration…when thousands of spam sites are going past its scanner every day… :/

Good for you to take matters into your own hands and repair beyond Google taking down your site and your content. I have to say I would still be concerned using Google Sites. Is there a reason you didn’t put it on WordPress.com like this site? Or have you considered making the jump to a paid host? With ads, you would likely be able to cover the cost of the hosting. That’s my approach.
