If you have upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, there is now an option built-in that will allow you, when you log into the computer, to bypass the Start Screen and go directly to the Desktop.
I have been using Windows 8 since its’ inception and I am finding the Start Screen to be more of an aggravation than anything. Microsoft heard the complaints and provided this option in the Windows 8 upgrade (to 8.1).
Here are the steps to take to tell your computer to automatically go to the Desktop, when you log in…
- From the Windows Desktop, right mouse click the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen and choose properties on the pop-up menu.
- Click the Navigation Tab
- In the Start Screen section, select the checkbox labelled “When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start”.
- Click Apply then OK
This does not disable the Windows Start Screen whatsoever. The easiest way to toggle between the Desktop and Start Screen is to hit the Windows key located on the left side of the keyboard between the Crtl key and the Alt key. You can also take the mouse pointer to the bottom left corner of the screen and click on the Windows logo when it appears.
