Now This Is Off Topic – I Think

January 7, 2012

I know this is a Tech Blog, where we are to be focused on computers, technology, gadgets, software and all of that good stuff; BUT, and I mean BUT, there are those occasions when we need to think outside the computer box. This is one of those occasions where I absolutely was laughing my butt off…

I am sure most of you have seen those “AS SEEN ON TV” products.  As a matter of fact, in my local mall there is a store devoted to the “AS SEEN ON TV” products. Today, in my hunt for information technology news I came across some technology advancements that made it to “AS SEEN ON TV”.

After looking at the images below, I will let your imagination take hold. After your imagination has painted that picture in your demented mind, I then want you to [CLICK HERE] to see these marvels of innovation AND what they are really all about.

P. S. I actually was laughing the entire time I was writing this and it is not even April Fools !

Time To Bring Back the Penguin Show At What’s On My PC

December 1, 2011

With the onset of winter coming, I thought it be appropriate to bring out the penguin for the Penguin Show.  This has been a most popular hit here at What’s On My PC

A Dedication to Miss Bucket

October 20, 2011

Folks, today’s post is really off the mark; however, I feel compelled to do a dedication to our 21 year old cat, whom we call Miss Bucket. I am having a difficult time focusing on an IT article today, due Miss Bucket weighs heavy on my mind. You see, Miss Bucket has been with us a very long time and today is her day to cross over; to go to heaven…

  Miss Bucket

Miss Bucket has carried many names during her lifetime; however, the name Miss Bucket is the name she is leaving us with. When I first met my wife, Miss Bucket was included in the deal. I was not really a fond lover of cats at that time; but, it did not take me long to see why Miss Bucket was included in the deal. Miss Bucket shares the same tenacity that my wife possesses. I have been truly blessed with Miss Bucket and the lessons she has taught me. We will  really miss her. If you have a pet, and have been through this, you know what I a referring to. Helping a pet cross over is really a tough call, but God gave us dominion over the animals, and today Miss Bucket is asking us to use that God given authority to help her.

[VIDEO] WALMARTians (AKA: People of Walmart)

July 2, 2011

I am sure, here in the States, you will be doing that last minute shopping for that 4th of July grilling party and one of your stops will most likely be at the Walmart monopoly.  As a result of the monopoly, every Tom, Dick, and Harriet, who once visited the local (now defunct) Mom and Pop stores, have no choice but to venture out into public view as, Walmartians (aka: The People of Walmart).

I routinely receive chain emails with updated versions of The People of Walmart and have come to the conclusion it is our humanistic way of making fun of ourselves in an economic environment that is now controlled by people of wealth.

To keep the humor going, here is a YouTube music video of the People of Walmart (by Jessica Frech).  Be sure to visit Jessica’s Website [HERE] – and have a Happy and Safe 4th!

How The Satirical Work of the Onion Combined With Facebook Equals Literally Unbelievable

June 5, 2011

If you are a reader of the blog, you most likely have seen one of my favorite sayings; “believe nothing and verify everything!”. I usually make that statement to let people know that just because it is on the internet, it is not always true. As a matter of fact, the internet is most likely the largest source of satire, gossip and untruths.

The Onion, Facebook and Literally Unbelievable

To validate my point, Steve over at Scoroncocolo contacted me about an article that he had written called The Onion, Facebook and Literally Unbelievable.com where he writes about how The Onion and Facebook make a pretty good team in that, it has been proven, that many of the users of Facebook literally and seriously believe what is posted on The Onion. The Onion is a satirical news outlet that publishes fake news stories so well that they can be quite convincing. As a matter of fact, just this morning, there is a story published titled, Church Cancelled Due to Lack of God.

Born from The Onion and Facebook connection was another site called Literally Unbelievable that interprets how the Facebook users are perceiving the stories, as published by The Onion.

So, if you are looking for a good story about how this mix works, I encourage you to jump over to Steve’s site and read The Onion, Facebook and Literally Unbelievable.com

And, don’t forget…  “believe nothing and verify everything!”.

Off Topic: White House Releases Birth Certificate

April 27, 2011

In all my years of being a citizen of the United States, I have never been more embarrassed… I was brought up to respect whomever was the President; whether it be Democrat or Republican. Today, we as U.S. citizens, fueled by “politicians, hate and the media circus” are teaching our younger generation that it is OK to be disrespectful toward our leaders. People will believe anything and the media and our congressional representatives know it. Folks, we are being dumbed down and made to feel angry toward each other. We cannot even set down and comfortably debate issues with friends without anger being expressed.

I try not to get caught up in this sort of thing, but when you turn on the TV (which I try to avoid) you see nothing but propaganda to sway our thought processes and keep us away from the real problems.

If I must, The President released his birth certificate for all to see.  What’s it going to be next?

YouTube Movie: First Orbit

April 13, 2011

YouTube (and Google) continue to raise the bar when it comes to online video content. Typically, it features a repository of short video clips and now they are working toward featuring longer, higher-quality video content on its website. Google, which owns YouTube, plans to invest millions into developing “original content”.

On that note, YouTube is featuring a premiere video (hour-and-half-long) called First Orbit. The video is a real-time recreation of Russian astronaut Yuri Gagarin’s first 108 minutes long orbit of Earth in 1961.

To mark this historic flight YouTube has teamed up with the astronauts onboard the International Space Station to film a new view of what Yuri would have seen as he travelled around the planet.
