A program that I use on a regular basis to protect and hide my personal text based notes is called Steganos LockNote. In a sense it is like notepad with an encryption option.
Store your most valuable notes as a LockNote
Hide your serial numbers, passwords, phone numbers and everyday notes in a safe place. Your informations will be encrypted using a password and most modern AES 256bit encryption technology.
Secure, yet simple
Just double-click a LockNote and enter your password to access your text files as usual.
No installation required
Move LockNotes wherever you want, as often as you want. A LockNote document does not require much more hard drive space than an unencrypted document.
Encrypt existing text files in no time at all
Simply drag and drop existing text files on a LockNote window: they will be encrypted automatically.
Open and free
LockNote is open source and is based upon open source technologies, e.g. the certified CryptoPP program library for strong encryption.

This week’s wallpaper is in support of one of my fellow bloggers, who manages the site Awesome Wallpapers, who is working his way through school and sports. I decided to pick a recent wallpaper from his collection and came up with this one, a scene at a Tibet Lake that is just awesome.
Windows 7 (and 8) Users: If you are using Windows 7 (or 8), did you know you can create a desktop background slideshow to show off your pictures and wallpaper images? To learn how to use this feature [CLICK HERE].
Recently I added an archive page to Bookmarks4Techs which is a listing of links (with titles) to every article I ever posted at What’s On My PC. When I came up with the idea I had to find a way to generate the list (which, at the time, was approximately 1450 articles) without expending a lot of work. I had some ideas up my sleeve; however, it goes back to an adage that I have; “If you can think of it, someone else has done it!”.
If you are using WordPress.com as your blogging platform, you will find that WordPress already has some shortcoding available that will allow to generate archive listings, in various types of formats. To generate the list that I needed, it was as simple as starting up the blogging editor in my account and inserting the shortcode [ archives ] in the editor, then clicking on Preview and voila’ there was a list of every article I ever posted in the order that they were posted. I simply then copied and pasted the listing into the Bookmarks4Techs archive page.
NOTE: In the example I used above, there are no spaces, between the brackets and the word archives. I had to place spaces between the brackets and the word archives to prevent WordPress from automatically generating the list of all my articles.
You can also insert additional archive shortcodes that will allow you to customize your lists. See the examples provided below. You can get more instruction and information on using these shortcodes [here] :
If you have not visited Bookmarks4Techs.com recently, I encourage you to do so. Don’t let the name of the site lead you to believe that the site is only for techs. Bookmarks4Techs is one of the largest collection of links to computer information technology sites and news on the internet. If you have a passion for computer information technology, to include software, apps, cloud computing, desktop computing, tablet computing, smartphones, etc…, then this site is for you. I can guarantee that you will keep up-to-date with the latest and greatest by visiting the links I have posted on the site.
Not only will you find one of the largest collection of links to computer and information technology sites on the internet, you will now find two NEW enhancements to the site.
Tech News – As you scroll down the listing of links, on the homepage, you will notice RSS news feeds for some of the most popular tech sites and blogs on the internet. These feeds automatically update so that when you come back to visit, there is always something new. I actually use this to get my daily dose of tech news and to see what is new on some of my favorite blogs.
Archived Blog Posts – The archive is a brainstorm idea that I came up with that list links to every single blog article ever posted at What’s On My PC. As I continue to post here at What’s On My PC, the archive at Bookmarks4Techs will continue to grow. As of today’s post, I currently have archived links to 1,457 posts.
We are now in the midst of the 12 Days of Christmas and if you are like me, I have a tendency to procrastinate and/or I am at a total loss when it comes to gifting. An option that I use when it gets’ close to Christmas is Amazon.com, which is one of the largest online retailers. Being the geekster that I am, I am a regular visitor to their computer and electronics section to see what is new and to wish for my next purchase. I especially like, that due to their size, you get numerous reviews on products from customers.
As a result of the size of Amazon, it is often difficult to get to the place you want to be. What many people do not know is that Amazon has a main store directory [ CLICK HERE ] that is a great launching point.
We all are familiar with web browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Safari; however, much is not said about Maxthon. Currently, I have Maxthon loaded on my Android phone and tablet and I have found it to be the best mobile device web browser out there. I think if you give the mobile version of Maxthon a try, I think you will find that it closely replicates the same browsing experience that you experience on your desktop computer.
I just learned yesterday that the developers of Maxthon recently released a NEW desktop version of Maxthon, calledMaxthon Cloud Browser. I noticed that they had a portable version of Maxthon Cloud Browser available for download, so I decided to give it a spin.
To be honest (and I am still testing this), I am very impressed. I don’t have anything available to test page loads, but I can tell you from experience, this is probably one of the fastest browsers I have ever experienced. Also, this browser is loaded with a ton of built-in features (such as screen gestures, a dial pad, dual page view, a resource sniffer, a screen capture utility, and more…). I do have to admit, which is a fun thing for me, I had to do some exploring in order to find a lot of the features and how to turn things on and off (i.e. the sidebar).
What the main concept of Maxthon Cloud Browser is that Maxthon Cloud Browser is not limited to a single device ecosystem or operating system: It moves files, data and web session information from browser to browser, unconfined by a single set of cloud products or devices.
If you really want to try something NEW, download the portable version of Maxthon Cloud Browser and give it a try! I think you may see that this Browser, not likely to break the backs of Firefox, Internet Explorer or Chrome; is a browser that may have a chance of coming out of nowhere.
Core Features:
Lightning fast speed – Maxthon Cloud uses an optimized web engine that loads webpages and runs applications faster than any other browsers.
Cloud syncing – Maxthon Cloud syncs user data, history and tabs across any platform their choice.
Cloud download – Simultaneous storage of user downloads in the cloud;
Cloud storage – You can create their own storage space in the cloud.
Cloud pushing – You can push content (webpages, text, pictures and links) from any webpage to any device running Maxthon Cloud.
This article is a retake on a cloud based sticky notes application, called Linoit, that I absolutely fell in love with. Since my last posting on Linoit back in early 2011, Linoit has developed into a very popular app to the point that it is also now available as an app for the iPhone, iPad and Android platforms. As a matter of fact I use it on my Toshiba Thrive tablet and absolutely love it. This allows me to sync my notes across all of my devices.
Years ago when I first experienced electronic sticky notes, I thought WOW… No more paper notes hanging around my computer monitor. Most electronic sticky note programs require a software installation to work; until now! As a result of cloud computing, a web-based virtual sticky notes program, called Linoit, was born. After setting up an account (for FREE) with Linoit, you can access your sticky notes anywhere there is internet service. Linoitworks directly from your web browser within a moveable “canvas” (where you can use your own background image), which is like a user specific bulletin board-like area. With Linoit you can even share sticky notes (and photos) with others.
Learn more about Linoit by watching the video…
There are so many features and options with this program that I encourage to visit the website [ HERE ] ; HOWEVER, there is one feature with Linoit that I think is really cool. Once you sign up for your account, get the “linoit anywhere” bookmarklet. Click on the “lino anywhere” bookmarklet anywhere, anytime, from any website and if you are signed into your Linoit account, your sticky notes will magically appear (overlay with transparent background) on the the page you are visiting. I can’t say I have seen anything like this with any other cloud computing service. Also, if you use Google Chrome, you can install Linoit as a Chrome app[ HERE ].
If you would like to experience Linoit to see what it is like, you can visit Linoit’s public sticky notes “HOW TO” board [ HERE ].
