A FREE Supercharged Screen Capture Utility

I do a lot of Powerpoint slide graphic creation and design for my church and training presentations for my work. I would be at a loss if I did not have in my toolbox a good “all round” screen capture utility that allowed me to manipulate screen captures, pick colors, edit images, etc.  Many of the screen capture apps that are multi-functional are often found at a price.

PicPick

One screen capture app that I have been closely monitoring is called PicPick Tools.  This little application can be installed on your PC or used as a portable app on your flash drive.  Most recently I have noticed that PicPick development has picked up with additional features being added.  My experience with this app is that it is closing in on some of the commercial apps that are out there’; AND for me personally, PicPick is becoming a mainstay application on my PC that I use to compliment my blogging and Powerpoint slide building.

If you do not have a screen capture utility installed on your PC, I suggest you give this one try – [ GET IT HERE ] .

  1. Rarst,

    Actually (3)-things:

    1. It is Free, whereas FSCapture is not…
    2. It is on a “run” as far as development…
    3. This I had been waiting for: “Frame” effects in the image editor (Border, frame, shadow and etc..)

It is close to be comparable to being equal to FSCapture.. (which is still my favorite).

Keep an eye on this one…

  2. Rick,
I went a whole lot of years of computer use without ever once needing a special “screen capture” tool (there was, after all, a key) and I simply couldn’t understand why anyone would get excited about such a thing.

Now, I use one almost daily, in my writing, and in my job as a Tech (screenshots of error messages, and problems, make great “proof” of your work). In fact, I have come to rely on an ability to snag bits and pieces of the screen, and I am always on the lookout for what’s new in capture tools. Um, I mean, free capture tools..
(One of my first “personalizations” on a new machine is to create a Quick Launch for the Snipping Tool)

  3. TechPaul,

Hey, thanks for pointing out the “Snipping Tool”… Hmmm… That sounds like another great article for Tech Paul. From my experience, not many people aware of the snipping tool 🙂

Well, we both know about last free version of FSCapture. 🙂 And I thought it has frames as well in editor?.. I rarely use its editor, prefer to edit in Paint.NET

  5. Rarst,

Yep, FSCapture has the frames ability that you mention. I usually use the “shadow” function when I post graphics to the blog to give it some depth. PicPick just added that function. Right now FSCapture is my first pick, but PicPick is closing in (and it’s free).

    Thanks,

    Rick
