Turn Your Photos Into Something Awesome with iPiccy Photo Tools

October 31, 2011

There is quite a lineup of online image editors these days, but there is one I bet you have not tried and it is called iPiccy.  Out of the gate, iPiccy is unique in that a registration is not required.  On top of that iPiccy is fast, very easy to use and offers quite a selection of tools that will enable you to to quickly and easily edit, enhance, share and print all of your photos from any Internet browser.

iPiccy

iPiccy is currently in the beta stages of development; which means it is in the public testing stage and which means it will continue to improve.

iPiccy provides new, easy-to-use tools for modifying pictures, using advanced image processing. iPiccy offers the easiest user interface and workflow of any photo editing application, allowing users to easily pull images from any Web site or file folder. iPiccy includes an extensive variety of easy Web-based photo-editing tools such as Auto-fix, Rotate, Crop, Resize and Color adjustment and Sharpen – all in one place and in real-time. In addition, iPiccy can also be used to turn photos into creative masterpieces, with clever special effects like Liquify, painter, vignette, pencils, and many more. iPiccy.com works flawlessly in any Web browser and is compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux. And since iPiccy lives on the Web, it is constantly evolving as new image-editing technology is developed and the needs of the user base change.

iPiccy includes more then 30 creative tools including basic effects such as Sepia, Black and White, Color tint, Bloom, and Cross process; advanced effects such as Unsharp Mask, Local Contrast, Image equaluzer plus an assortment of borders and frame shapes. In addition iPiccy have advanced built-in painter and text editor.  Need a quick method to apply a watermark to an image, then give iPiccy a try.

iPiccy

There was one thing in iPiccy that I did not see and that was the ability to create an arrow. Usually this can be found under the tool to create a line. Maybe in a future version I will see this option.  Otherwise, this online editor is a great one in my book.

A Free Clipboard Manager That Saves Every Text and Image You Copy to the Clipboard

October 27, 2011

Typically when you cut or copy text (or an image), it is saved transparently to the Windows clipboard. The problem with this operation is that if you perform a cut or copy operation multiple times, the previous instance of what you cut or copied is wiped from the clipboard.

Free Clipboard ManagerA solution to this problem is to use a clipboard manager that allows you to save multiple instances of a cut/copy operation. Today I want to lead you to really neat clipboard manager, that is relatively new, that is portable and will allow you to copy and store multiple instances of text and images.  It is called Free Clipboard Manager

Free Clipboard Manager

Free Clipboard Manager

Free Clipboard Manager

Free Clipboard Manager saves every text and image that is copied in the clipboard! This is useful if you have to take a lot of screenshots or if you need to access to multiple notes of part of code without the need to paste them in a text editor. Simply hit CTRL-C or PRINT SCREEN to save automatically the clipboard content to hdd! To copy them back to clipboard, select the item, right click with the mouse and select “copy item to clipboard”. The saved content can also be accessed with explorer. Everything is saved in the directory “clipboard”. The software also has an option to prevent user/password to be saved to hdd. Selecting the option “don’t save text with less than 20 chars”, user and password with less than 20 chars, are only copied to clipboard.

Make Your Photos and Videos Automatically Fly From Your Camera to Your Computer

October 24, 2011

I spend much of my obsession for technology, by looking for the latest technology in computers and computer accessories on Amazon. It is such a vast resource that you can literally spend hours upon hours browsing their site.

Today, I came across a technology that I did not know about that is just downright impressive. I am sure many of you out there have digital cameras that use the SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity Cards) in your camera. Typically, after you take your pictures you manually have to transfer the pictures to your computer by either connecting the camera to the computer or by removing the SDHC card from the camera and copying the pictures to the computer.

Well, appears there is a new technology available that allows you to wirelessly (and automatically) transfer or upload JPEG photos & videos fast through your home Wi-Fi network thanks to built in 802.11n speed. You are probably asking, how does this work, my camera does not have wireless (wi-fi) built into the camera???

How this does work is that you can purchase an SDHC card (reasonably priced in my opinion) that has a wireless transmitter built into the SDHC memory card. It is called, Eye-Fi Connect X2. Appears that the cards are available in a 4GB and 8GB’s.

Play Android Apps On Your PC

October 22, 2011

The intent of this post is to let people know that there is a Windows based application, called BlueStacks, that is in the early development stages (alpha stage) that will allow you to play Android Apps on your Windows based PC and sync those apps via BlueStacks Cloud Connect.

BlueStacks

Again, the intent here is to make an announcement about this software, so that you can follow along with the development cycle; AND, should be ONLY installed and used by those who like to test software applications.

BlueStacks

If you own an Android based smartphone or tablet PC, then you know how huge of an implication this could be. With this player, in its’ current alpha state, the following is known:

  • Play Android Apps fast and full-screen
  • Push your favorite apps from your Android phone to your Windows PC using BlueStacks Cloud Connect
  • Run 10 pre-loaded apps “out of the box”
  • Install up to 26 more of your favorite apps
  • May not work fast on older tablets and netbooks
  • Available for Windows 7 and it’s free

If you want to check out BlueStacks and give it a test run, you can download the application from [ HERE ].

Using Google’s Built-In Dictionary – Just Remember The Word “define”

October 21, 2011

At one point Google had a page set up where you specifically could look up a word for its’ definition and spelling. That has since changed and is actually now easier. All you have to do is remember the word define

Let’s say we want to define the word ambient. In the Google Search Box you simply would type define ambient to get the result (see below).

Google Dictionary

To take this one step further; once you get the result, click on More info to get more web definitions of the word.

So the next time you are stuck on a word for its’ definition or spelling, you do not need to go looking for the dictionary on the bookshelf, just use Google and remember the word define.

A Dedication to Miss Bucket

October 20, 2011

Folks, today’s post is really off the mark; however, I feel compelled to do a dedication to our 21 year old cat, whom we call Miss Bucket. I am having a difficult time focusing on an IT article today, due Miss Bucket weighs heavy on my mind. You see, Miss Bucket has been with us a very long time and today is her day to cross over; to go to heaven…

  Miss Bucket

Miss Bucket has carried many names during her lifetime; however, the name Miss Bucket is the name she is leaving us with. When I first met my wife, Miss Bucket was included in the deal. I was not really a fond lover of cats at that time; but, it did not take me long to see why Miss Bucket was included in the deal. Miss Bucket shares the same tenacity that my wife possesses. I have been truly blessed with Miss Bucket and the lessons she has taught me. We will  really miss her. If you have a pet, and have been through this, you know what I a referring to. Helping a pet cross over is really a tough call, but God gave us dominion over the animals, and today Miss Bucket is asking us to use that God given authority to help her.

Olympus VN-8100PC Digital Voice Recorder

image

If you do not own a voice recorder due to the thinking a voice recorder is a bulky device to carry that is difficult to use, then look no further. The Olympus VN-8100C Digital Voice Recorder is your answer.  A voice recorder is very handy device in many situations.  For example, I do security work that requires a lot of documentation. Instead of using a notepad and pen to document events, I use my Olympus voice recorder. The recordings are date and time stamped; plus, I have the ability to transfer (and archive) individual recordings to my PC in a WMA or MP3 format.  Another use of this particular recorder is that it has a microphone jack which allows you to tie the recorder into a sound board to record special events. The results of the recordings are amazing. There are so many uses with a voice recorder; especially a digital recorder.  You just have to start using it.

A Free, Fast and Easy-To-Use Network Scanner

October 18, 2011

Years back when I managed a network, I relied on a network scanner to get a visual of what computers and devices on the network were alive (functioning). This was invaluable resource in maintaining the integrity of the network.

Believe it or not a good network scanner is an invaluable resource for your home network, as well. A scanner that I currently use in my home is called Advanced IP Scanner.

Advanced IP Scanner

Advanced IP Scanner will scan your network and will identify the computers and devices (wireless and all) that are currently operational on the network. What I like about Advanced IP Scanner is that I can identify the IP addressed of those devices to perform remote sessions and to transfer files. As a matter of fact, Advanced IP Scanner has an option built in that will allow you to transfer files (from shared folders) between the computers on the network.  This, however, is only one option available (see features below).

Advanced IP Scanner - Fast network scanning

Fast network scanning

With Advanced IP Scanner 2.1, you can scan hundreds of IP addresses simultaneously at high speed. The software supports scanning of HTTP, HTTPS, FTP and shared folders. Scan your network to get more information about all connected devices including computers’ names and MAC-addresses.

Advanced IP Scanner - Integration with Radmin remote access softwareIntegration with Radmin remote access software

Advanced IP Scanner 2.1 and Radmin remote control software are deeply integrated. IP Scanner lets you scan your network, find all computers running Radmin Server, and connect to any one of them with one click. The free Radmin Viewer needs to be installed on your PC for you to access a remote machine running Radmin Server. With Radmin, you can access the remote PC in Full Control, File Transfer, and Telnet modes.

Advanced IP Scanner - Remote PC ShutdownRemote PC Shutdown

This shuts down any remote machine or group of machines running a Windows operating system. You can use your default access rights or specify a login and password for shutdown. This feature is very handy for system administrators since it enables all computers in a customized list to be turned off in a single operation at the end of the working day.

Advanced IP Scanner - Wake-On-LANWake-On-LAN

You can wake any machine or group of machines remotely using Advanced IP Scanner if the machines’ network cards support the “Wake-On-LAN” feature.

Advanced IP Scanner - Simple and user-friendly interfaceSimple and user-friendly interface

Advanced IP Scanner has a simple, user-friendly interface. For simpler batch operations, it lets you save a list of computers to be scanned in a Favorites list. Advanced IP Scanner will automatically load your Favorites at startup. You then can choose whether to scan your entire network or just the computers in the Favorites list.

Quickly Scan Directory Sizes and Find Space Hogs

October 17, 2011

Understanding the space capacity and usage of the hard drive is difficult for most folks to grasp hold of and understand. To help with this dilemma I use a small utility (that is FREE) called TreeSIZE Free.

TreeSIZE Free

What I especially like about TreeSIZE is that it gives you a visual reference of your directory (or folder) sizes to determine where the real space hogs are. This is especially helpful in making you understand the difference between gigabytes, megabytes and kilobytes. When you first run TreeSIZE, be advised that it will perform an initial scan of your hard drive (or other media) which will take up to a minute or more.

TreeSIZE Free can be started from the context menu of a folder or drive and shows you the size of this folder, including its subfolders. You can expand this folder in Explorer-like style and you will see the size of every subfolder. All results can also be drilled down to the file level. Scanning is done in a thread, so you can already see results while TreeSize Free is working. The Explorer context menu is supported within TreeSize, as well as the usual drag & drop operation.

TreeSIZE Free is available as a normal setup or as a portable app; AND will run on Windows 7 (32 Bit / 64 Bit), Windows Vista (32 Bit / 64 Bit), Windows XP (32 Bit / 64 Bit), Windows Server 2008 R2 (64 Bit), Windows Server 2008 (32 Bit / 64 Bit), AND Windows Server 2003
(32 Bit / 64 Bit).
