Recently my work Director (and close friend) and her husband had a major setback where their home was completely destroyed by fire (see here). To assist getting them back on their feet, another Director that I work for came up with the innovated idea of using an online crowdsource fund raising site, called gofundme (to help get the word out and to help raise and manage the funds that were received).
A goal of $1k has been set for this particular fund raiser; and, if you are interested in helping out CLICK HERE… gofundme is a perfectly safe way to help others out (including yourself) in situations where life throws you a curve ball.
To get a few things out of the way about using this type of service:
First – A small handling and management fee is charged to recipient of the funds and not the donors.
Second — You can setup a gofundme page to collect for other people, as was done for the family that I know.
Third — Use a credit card to make the donation.
The beauty of using gofundme is that it is tied in closely with Facebook where you can share information about the situation and that funds are being collected for whatever the purpose may be. You can also use the communication power of the internet; such as email, blogging, other social networking sites to post a link about the fund raiser.
Crowdfunding.com ranks gofundme, as of the date of this posting, as the #1 top crowdfunding site by Alexa (which analyzes the internet traffic to the site).
