Safely AND Quickly Hide Files and Folders – If you are looking for a way to hide a file or folder, then take a look at WinMend. I can tell you that I have used WinMend for the past several years and I have never lost a file.  The WinMend site states it, like this; “While ensuring the absolute system safety, this application can quickly hide files and folders on local partitions and/or on removable devices. The hidden files/folders will be safely hidden whether the drive is accessed in another operating system on the same computer or reinstalled on another computer”. I have added WinMend to the downloads page, located under the FREE SOFTWARE swarm…

One Response to Geek Squeaks (#2015-36) FEATURING — Control What People See About You On Google Services — and MORE GREAT STUFF

  1. There is an important class of unused memory which can be cleaned up but which the Disk Cleanup utility does not advise you about. It is the memory associated with restore points. I just came close to doing a format and clean install of Windows 10 on a little laptop that has only a 32GB C: drive. I could not figure out how to free enough of that small bulk memory for the upgrade to Version 1511 to proceed (even with plenty of space on a 32GB SD card for a D: drive). I finally discovered that there was a whopping 5GB devoted to a single restore point. (I think it was left over from the upgrade to Windows 10 from 8.1 and had not been cleaned up as it should have been when the ability to revert had passed. Otherwise, a restore point would not require nearly so much memory.) The Disk Cleanup utility really should tell folks about memory devoted to restore points. I was lucky to have found it.

You cannot get to restore point configuration from the Settings page. You can go Control Panel -> System -> System Protection.
