FastStone Image Viewer Now At V6.0

October 29, 2016

Typically, most folks use the image viewers/editors that is built into Windows, that can be, in my opinion, quite confusing. The viewer that is on all of my PC’s is FastStone Image Viewer.  Been using it for years… Available as a full install or portable app!

FastStone Image Viewer is a fast, stable, user-friendly image browser, converter and editor. It has a nice array of features that include image viewing, management, comparison, red-eye removal, emailing, resizing, cropping, retouching and color adjustments. Its innovative but intuitive full-screen mode provides quick access to EXIF information, thumbnail browser and major functionalities via hidden toolbars that pop up when your mouse touches one of the four edges of the screen. Other features include a high quality magnifier and a musical slideshow with 150+ transitional effects, as well as lossless JPEG transitions, drop shadow effects, image annotation, scanner support, histogram and much more. It supports all major graphic formats (BMP, JPEG, JPEG 2000, animated GIF, PNG, PCX, PSD, EPS, TIFF, WMF, ICO and TGA) and popular digital camera RAW formats (CRW, CR2, NEF, PEF, RAF, MRW, ORF, SRF, ARW, SR2, RW2 and DNG).

FastStone Image Viewer – The Only Image Utility You Will Ever Need

August 28, 2016

If you are wanting something that is better than the viewer built into the Windows operating system, I encourage you to take a look at the FREE FastStone Image Viewer. This software utility is specifically developed to manage and manipulate images.  I have been using it for years and there has been no turning back. Recently, FastStone Image Viewer received an upgrade that gives you the ability to run two image viewers at the same time; drag and drop images between them; and, compare images from different folders side by side. This is only one of the many features of FastStone Image Viewer. Can’t say enough about this software…

(In My Opinion) – Best Dedicated Photo Resizer Out There

April 18, 2015

Needed to batch resize some photos this morning, so I immediately went to FastStone’s website and grabbed the portable version of FastStone Photo Resizer. I was able to resize a folder containing approximately 300MB of photo files (that were of high def) to 100MB without any noticeable loss of clarity in the pics (so that I could post them online to share with the family). I like the idea that this photo resizer is dedicated solely for the purpose of resizing photos and easy to learn (and navigate).

FastStone Photo Resizer

FastStone Photo Resizer is an image converter and renaming tool that intends to enable users to convert, rename, resize, crop, rotate, change color depth, add text and watermarks to images in a quick and easy batch mode. Drag and Drop mouse operation is well supported.

FEATURES:

  • Convert and Rename images in batch mode
  • Support JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG, TIFF and JPEG2000
  • Resize, crop, change color depth, apply color effects, add text, watermark and border effects
  • Rename images with sequential number
  • Search and replace texts in the file names
  • Preview conversion and renaming
  • Support folder/non-folder structure
  • Load and save settings

Get the last FREE version of FastStone Capture

May 14, 2009

A screen capture utility is a “must have” on any PC (or flash drive); especially if you are a writer, blogger, graphic designer, desktop publisher, etc… I have tried and tested many of the capture utilities and the one that has set well with me is “FastStone Capture”.  FastStone Capture went commercial after version 5.3; however, the freeware version is still available at various sites around the internet.  This little utility is a well thought out screen capture utility. It  is no wonder the author opted to go commercial with it.

Before I tell you where you can get FastStone Capture (the last freeware version), let me give you some hightlights. The download that I will refer you to is a download for the portable version that can be installed on your flash drive or into a folder of your choice on your PC. This way, if you do not like it, simply delete the folder; but I’m telling you this little app rocks and is very easy to use.

FastStone Capture uses very little screen space and provides (6) different screen capture modes (see below) that can be activated by clicking one of the mode buttons in the application or by using hotkey combinations on your keyboard.

FastStone_Capture

1. Capture Active Window

2. Capture Window /Object

3. Capture Rectangle Region

4. Capture Freehand Region

5. Capture Full Screen

6. Capture Scrolling Window

With FastStone Capture you have the option of sending the captured result to a built in graphic editor, to the clipboard, to a file, to the printer, or to an email (as an attachment).  The output file can be saved to the most common graphic file formats (e.g. gif, png, bmp, jpg, tif) or as a PDF file. Settings are also available that allow you to auto capture to an edge/watermark or to prompt you each time to assign a caption or label to your captured result.  This little app also features a built-in graphic editor, a screen magnifier and a screen color picker.

If you do not have this app, I suggest you get it now…  You can download FastStone Capture (last freeware version) [ HERE ] .  Kudos to the author of FastStone Capture for making such a wonderful application.

FastStone Image Viewer…

November 14, 2008

When you buy a digital camera it usually ships with some type of digital imaging software. Same goes with scanners. I never install those packages, due they are often cumbersome, want to connect to the internet, and will often slow a system down. Windows XP and Vista, more than often, will automatically recognize those devices without having to install the software. On occasions you may have to install a driver and that is usually available on the same CD that the software is on. So what do I use for my imaging and scanning software? I currently use a FREE software program called FastStone Image Viewer. This program is awesome in the aspect that it does more than just view images (see features below). One really nice option with this software is that there is a portable version available, which can be installed on your flash drive. In my opinion, this is the best FREE full featured image utility out there.

Features (as indicated on the website):

  • Image browser and viewer with a familiar Windows Explorer-like user interface
  • Support of many popular image formats: (BMP, JPEG, JPEG 2000, animated GIF, PNG, PCX, TIFF, WMF, ICO and TGA) and popular digital camera RAW formats (CRW, CR2, NEF, PEF, RAF, MRW, ORF, SRF and DNG).
  • True Full Screen viewer with image zoom support and unique fly-out menu panels
  • Crystal-clear and customizable one-click image magnifier
  • Superior Red-Eye effect removal/reduction with completely natural looking end result
  • Image modification tools: Resize/resample, rotate/flip, crop, sharpen/blur, brightness/contrast, etc.
  • Eleven (yes, 11) resampling algorithms to choose from when resizing images
  • Image color effects: gray scale, sepia, negative, Red/Green/Blue adjustment
  • Image special effects: watermark, annotation, drop shadow, framing, bump map, lens, morph, waves
  • Multi-level Undo/Redo capability
  • One-touch best fit/actual size image display support
  • Image management, including tagging capability, with drag-and-drop and Copy To/Move To Folder support
  • Histogram display with color counter feature
  • Compare images side-by-side (up to 4 at a time) to easily cull those forgettable shots
  • Image EXIF metadata support (plus comment editing for JPEGs)
  • Configurable batch processing to convert/rename large or small collections of images
  • Slideshow creation with 150+ transition effects and music support (MP3, WMA, WAV…)
  • Create efficient image attachment(s) for emailing to family and friends
  • Print images with full page-layout control
  • Create fully configurable Contact Sheets – just like the pros (and save $$$ on ink)
  • Create memorable artistic image montages from your family photos for personalized desktop wallpapers (Wallpaper Anywhere)
  • Acquire images from a scanner
  • Versatile screen capture capability
  • Powerful Save As interface to compare image quality and control generated file size
  • Run favorite programs with one keystroke from within Image Viewer
  • Create a no-install fully portable version of the program which can be run from a removable storage device
  • Configurable mouse wheel support
  • Supports multiple program skins
  • Supports dual-monitor configurations
  • And much more…
