Bookmarks4Techs Hits The 777 Mark

January 11, 2014

Throughout the years of maintaining my main site (What’s On My PC), I have managed to accumulate (and continue to accumulate) links to numerous tech sites. As a result, I have decided to share these links with you, through Bookmarks4Techs.com

Bookmarks4Techs.com

Bookmarks4Techs is one of, if not, the largest listing of tech sites on the internet.  If you have an interest in the world of computers and information technology, I think you will find this site to be a very valuable resource. I will be working hard to keep the site up to date; and, as a result you will see continual changes in the listing.

Today’s Geek Squeaks – September 17, 2013

September 17, 2013

A summary of Today’s Geek Squeaks:

Squeak #1 – (NetSolitaire): Love playing solitaire? NetSolitaire is one of the best cloud based solitaire games I have come across that you play in your web browser (see below);

Squeak #2 – (Wallpaper “Inside The Icicle”): I normally only feature wallpapers once a week; however, this one called “Inside The Icicle” popped up on my screen and I went WOW!  I just had to share this wallpaper with you (see below);

Squeak #3 – (Microsoft Bing Has A NEW Look):  Over 4 years ago I posted an article, “Bing – Microsoft’s New Search Engine”, that received more comments than any other article I ever posted at What’s On My PC. At that time, people were complaining that Bing took over their computer and apparently they thought I created Bing and demanded I remove it. Fast forward to today and Bing has become a main competitor to Google and a now they have once again given Bing a new look (see below); AND,

Squeak #4 – (Desktop Cable Management): A neat, inexpensive, way to manage cable clutter on your desktop (see below)…

A Couch Friendly Keyboard By Logitech

June 7, 2013

Logitech is the best when it comes to the computer keyboard and mouse. One of their keyboard innovations that is quite impressive (in customer reviews) and is couch friendly is the Wireless Touch Keyboard K400 with Built-In Multi-Touch Touchpad.

Wireless Touch Keyboard K400 with Built-In Multi-Touch Touchpad

The reason I call this a couch friendly keyboard is because you can connect your laptop (and some tablets) to your TV and control the laptop from the comfort of your couch. The K400 has a range of approximately 33 feet (10 meters) and the best part is that it has a touchpad built right into the keyboard to control the functions of the mouse.

Long-range wireless control

  • Reliable Logitech Advanced 2.4 GHz wireless connection with up to 33 ft range*
  • Control your TV-connected laptop from across the room
  • Turn up the volume, pause or tweet about the movie you just downloaded—all without leaving the couch

Built-in large touchpad with intuitive Windows 8 gesture support

  • No need for a separate mouse
  • Large 3.5-inch touchpad with multi-touch navigation for easy horizontal and vertical scrolling
  • Convenient left and right click buttons

Plug-and-play simplicity

  • No cords, software or hassles
  • Plug the Logitech Unifying wireless receiver into your USB port and start navigating
  • Tiny receiver can stay in your laptop and connect up to six compatible Unifying wireless devices

12-month battery life**

  • Go for a full year without changing batteries
  • On-off switch helps you save power when you’re not using the keyboard

Works with:

  • Windows 8/Windows 8 RT, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows XP
  • USB port

April 10, 2013

You have to love technology… Seagate has an external hard drive available that is called Wireless Plus. This drive has its own Wi-Fi network built-in, so you can wirelessly stream your media and files to your wi-fi devices such, as your tablet or smartphone.  You need no wires with this drive, at all.  It has a built-in rechargeable battery that will give you up to 10 hours life.  Imagine jumping in the car, powering the Wireless Plus up to stream movies to the kids’ tablets.

A Camcorder With A Built-In Projector

April 3, 2013

With the advent of the smartphone, with built in cameras and video recorders, the makers of camcorders needed to become more innovative. An example of this higher level of innovation can be found in the Sony HDR-PJ230/B High Definition Handycam Camcorder. This camcorder has it all; a built-in 8.9 megapixel still image camera, 27X optical zoom, 1920 x 1080 high definition resolution, 8GB embedded Flash memory and much more.  But, get this —  the Sony HDR-PJ230/B has a built-in video projection system that is powerful enough to project an image up to a 100-inch diagonal screen. Now this is what I call carrying your whole multimedia system in your pocket…  Amazing!

Amazon Drops The Price On The Kindle Fire HD 8.9” Tablet

March 20, 2013

Back in January I featured the Kindle Fire HD tablet as the tech product of the week. This week is sort of a repeat on the Kindle Fire HD and the reason is simply this:  I noticed that Amazon has dropped the price $30 on the 8.9” Wi-Fi model and $100 on the 8.9” 4G LTE model (with data plans). I am sure this is to keep Amazon competitive and my guess is that they have something else coming at us on the horizon. If you want to get on board with a tablet, the Kindle HD Fire with the price drop is an excellent opportunity.

A Low Profile 32 GB Flash Drive That Is Well Suited for A Tablet Computer or Car Audio System

February 13, 2013

The Tech Product for this week is the SanDisk Cruzer Fit CZEE 32 GB Flash Drive. The best way to describe this drive is that it is discreet.  As a matter of fact, the only bad about this drive is that it is so discreet you may just forget about it.  Otherwise, this drive is well suited for a  tablet computer or car audio where it is a very low profile and inconspicuous. This drive does not protrude from the side of the device like a typical in size flash drive.

Just how small is the Cruzer Fit CZEE 32 GB Flash Drive?  It is next to the size of a dime, so be careful that you do not lose it (or forget about it). Personally, I like the size and typically keep it in my computer to backup my personal documents.

Get Your Windows Gadgets Back In Windows 8

December 26, 2012

Microsoft did not do a very good job promoting the gadget platform that was available in Windows Vista and Windows 7; and, as a result, most people were clueless about it (and did not understand it). Actually, for the everyday home computer user, it was not the easiest platform to navigate.

Typically, if you had the gadget platform activated, you would see a sidebar on the side of the desktop that displayed your gadgets (mini-programs that offered information at a glance and provided easy access to frequently accessed tools). I know that some of the gadgets I played around with (such as clocks, system monitors, picture slide shows, mini rss readers) were actually very good and were often nice in appearance. You could even detach the gadgets from the sidebar and move them around the desktop.

If you upgraded to Windows 8, and you was a Windows gadget user, you are going to find that the gadget platform is gone; HOWEVER, there is a really good third party FREE software option, called Thoosje Windows Sidebar 8, that will bring the gadgets back in Windows 8.

Screenshot - Windows Sidebar 8

Thoosje windows Sidebar comes with 11 of the most used gadgets like a clock gadget, Calendar gadget, CPU/memory gadget, Search gadgets, Hard Drive gadgets, Media player, quick launch, RSS feed gadget and more. An addtionional free gadget pack is under development now and will be released this year.

Thoosje windows sidebar is completely redeveloped and now the new gadgets system is designed to make it possible to let independent developers  create new gadgets for Thoosje Windows sidebar 8. The system is created to make it possible running Gadgets Directly From DLL ( For Developers)

Thoosje Windows Sidebar 8 Features

  • Entirely new Sidebar Engine
  • Eleven Build In Windows Gadgets
  • New Redesigned Windows Gadget Manager
  • Importing/Exporting Windows Gadgets (.cwgf files)
  • Importing & exporting Gadget Packs (.cwgp files)
  • Gadgets Info
  • Gadgets have Customizable Settings With build in encryption system
  • Gadget Blacklisting system to prevent malware
  • Enlarging Gadgets
  • Running multiple instances of gadgets which each have their own settings
  • Sidebar Background Settings Including 8 sidebar backgrounds
  • Customizable Sidebar Transparency settings
  • Sidebar Language Settings
  • Automatically Download new language files from server
  • Sidebar Error logs
  • Storing Gadgets on separated Sidebar pages
  • More gadgets available soon

Use Amazon’s Full Store Directory For The Twelve Days of Christmas

December 13, 2012

AmazonWe are now in the midst of the 12 Days of Christmas and if you are like me, I have a tendency to procrastinate and/or I am at a total loss when it comes to gifting.  An option that I use when it gets’ close to Christmas is Amazon.com, which is one of the largest online retailers. Being the geekster that I am, I am a regular visitor to their computer and electronics section to see what is new and to wish for my next purchase.  I especially like, that due to their size, you get numerous reviews on products from customers.

As a result of the size of Amazon, it is often difficult to get to the place you want to be. What many people do not know is that Amazon has a main store directory [ CLICK HERE ] that is a great launching point.

Linoit Is The Best Web Based Sticky Notes App

August 14, 2012

This article is a retake on a cloud based sticky notes application, called Linoit, that I absolutely fell in love with. Since my last posting on Linoit back in early 2011, Linoit has developed into a very popular app to the point that it is also now available as an app for the iPhone, iPad and Android platforms. As a matter of fact I use it on my Toshiba Thrive tablet and absolutely love it. This allows me to sync my notes across all of my devices.

Linoit

Years ago when I first experienced electronic sticky notes, I thought WOW…  No more paper notes hanging around my computer monitor.  Most electronic sticky note programs require a software installation to work; until now!  As a result of cloud computing, a web-based virtual sticky notes program, called Linoit, was born. After setting up an account (for FREE) with Linoit, you can access your sticky notes anywhere there is internet service. Linoitworks directly from your web browser within a moveable “canvas” (where you can use your own background image), which is like a user specific bulletin board-like area. With Linoit you can even share sticky notes (and photos) with others.

Learn more about Linoit by watching the video…

There are so many features and options with this program that I encourage to visit the website [ HERE ] ; HOWEVER, there is one feature with Linoit that I think is really cool. Once you sign up for your account, get the “linoit anywhere” bookmarklet. Click on the “lino anywhere” bookmarklet anywhere, anytime, from any website and if you are signed into your Linoit account, your sticky notes will magically appear (overlay with transparent background) on the the page you are visiting. I can’t say I have seen anything like this with any other cloud computing service.  Also, if you use Google Chrome, you can install Linoit as a Chrome app[ HERE ].

If you would like to experience Linoit to see what it is like, you can visit Linoit’s public sticky notes “HOW TO” board [ HERE ].
