Craigslist On Steroids – I have been trying to pay more attention to some of the Windows Store apps (for Windows 8.1 and 10) and hope to feature some of the apps that I think are worth installing. One of the first apps I installed (since I am a Craigslist user) was CPlus for Craigslist. If you are a Craigslist user, I encourage you to definitely take a look at this app. Makes browsing Craigslist a much more enjoyable and streamlined (faster) experience.

How To Create A Slide To Shutdown Shortcut In Windows 10 – The Windows Club has given us a “how to” Create A Slide To Shutdown Shortcut In Windows 10. Once you follow their instructions, simply click on the shortcut and the lock screen will roll half way down the screen. When it stops, simply take your mouse and drag it to the bottom edge of the screen and your computer will commence to shutdown. You can back out of this, if you decide to not pull down the lock screen (from the halfway point), by hitting the “esc” key on your keyboard (at which point the lock down screen will roll back to the top).  To add to this, I right clicked the shortcut I added and selected a different icon (such as the shutdown icon). I then pinned the shortcut to my taskbar. This shortcut makes shutting down your PC much easier…

GEEK SQUEAKS- Featuring How To Auto Logon Into Windows 8.1 Using Your Windows Live Account Credentials

imageIf you upgraded to Windows 8.1 and you are now being required to logon with a Windows Live account, there is way to bypass that logon screen and let Windows auto logon for you.

As you may have discovered, Windows 8.1 is tightly integrated into a Windows Live Account.  As a result, it can be a pain, especially for home based computer users to login each time Windows starts. By following these steps, it will make your life using the computer a little easier.

  1. Hit the Windows Key and the R key on your keyboard (Win + R) to bring up the RUN dialog box.
  2. Type in the RUN dialog box netplwiz and click OK
  3. When the Users Account box appear, under the Users Tab you will see he following: Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.
  4. Uncheck the box and click OK
  5. When the Automatically Sign In Box appears, type in your Windows Live Account username and password and click on OK
  6. Restart your computer to see if it took. During start up of the computer you will briefly see the log in screen (if you followed the steps correctly).

Avoid Creating Vulnerable Passwords – To help protect your accounts that are password protected, make your password something that is relevant to you, but that others might not consider. Also, stay away from the obvious choices of making the password relate to the account, for example, making your credit card password “creditcard”… @Computer How To Guide

Keep This Bootable CD Handy For Troubleshooting – One of the best ways to diagnose and examine an unbootable PC is to use a bootable rescue disk (normally a CD, DVD or a USB stick).  Booting from the rescue disk gives you a usable, albeit minimal, operating system from which you can check out the problem. One really useful such tool is the Ultimate Boot CD from FalconFour… @Gizmo’s
