EXPERTS HAVE CONCERNS that electronics (such as tablets) can lead kids to be anti-social.  Like my mother always said, “too much of anything can be harmful”…

Tablets a hit with kids, but experts have concerns

@ NBC News

Some experts note there’s no evidence that screen time — whether from a TV or tablet — provides any educational or developmental benefits for babies and toddlers. Yet it takes away from activities that do promote brain development, such as non-electronic toys and adult interaction.

They also say that too much screen time has been linked to behavior problems and delayed social development in older children… READ MORE

How to Determine What Videos Are Topping The YouTube Charts?

November 25, 2011

When I visit YouTube I am often looking for the videos that are topping the charts (most popular). This can be a challenge; however, there is an easy way to see what videos are topping the charts for the day, week, month and even all time.

Simply visit youtube.com, but add the word charts to the web address.  It will look like this in your web browser:

 http://youtube.com/charts

YouTube Charts

Not only can you determine what is popular at the moment for the most viewed videos, you can also determine what is topping the charts for the Most Discussed Videos, the Most Liked, the Most Viewed HD Videos, and the Top Favorited.  Hmmm… Is favorited a word?

A High-Def Video Network for the Internet Generation

August 31, 2011

Recently I have been exploring the various internet TV options out there and one of my favorite is Revision3.

Revision3

There are several reasons for this:

  1. Revision3 has a great selection of video content that features tech and geek oriented programming; however, there are other video selections and topics, as well.
  2. The broadcast quality of the video content is in high definition, which in itself makes watching the shows a real joy to view on just about any web platform out there (such as on your computer, tablet pc and phone). You can even download the shows to watch them later.
  3. Revision3 creates and produces its own content (see listing below) in a style that gives resemblance to an actual television network. The programming is real life based with a mixture of education and entertainment that keeps you going back for more.

Revision3

If you have never visited Revision3, I encourage you to do so.  Below are links that will take you to the actual shows.

YouTube Movie: First Orbit

April 13, 2011

YouTube (and Google) continue to raise the bar when it comes to online video content. Typically, it features a repository of short video clips and now they are working toward featuring longer, higher-quality video content on its website. Google, which owns YouTube, plans to invest millions into developing “original content”.

On that note, YouTube is featuring a premiere video (hour-and-half-long) called First Orbit. The video is a real-time recreation of Russian astronaut Yuri Gagarin’s first 108 minutes long orbit of Earth in 1961.

To mark this historic flight YouTube has teamed up with the astronauts onboard the International Space Station to film a new view of what Yuri would have seen as he travelled around the planet.
