Here is how to change your Twitter password

Twitter is making it easy to get started. The company is showing users a notification that links directly to its password reset page. You can also get there by going to Settings and Privacy -> Change Password on Twitter’s website, or Settings and Privacy -> Account -> Change Password on the mobile app. You will need to enter your existing password, then a new password twice.

Twitter Users – You May Want To Change Your Password

A glitch at Twitter has prompted the social media company to urge its more than 330 million users to consider changing their account passwords after some of them were exposed on its internal computer network. The company wrote a blog post informing users of the incident on Thursday.

Unknown number of passwords were “unmasked in an internal log”; no indication they were breached or misused, company says

GEEK SQUEAKS – Featuring Steps To Clean Your Flat Panel Monitor (and other screen devices)

[
FEATURED GEEK SQUEAK] – How To Clean Your Flat Panel Monitor – Most of the time when we decide to clean the monitor it is at a time when we are not really prepared to do it.  We’re sitting there and it is something obvious (like a smudge, a fingerprint, a bug etc.) that catches our attention and motivates us to to perform a cleaning. Ant

As a result of this, we end up using glass cleaner and paper towels, which is a big “NO, NO”…  Paper towels or any paper product for that matter contains micro-particles that can scratch the monitor; AND glass cleaners contain chemicals (such as ammonia, alcohol and phosphates) that can damage the optical coating.

5 Step Process:

  1. Turn “OFF” the monitor (actually turn “off” everything including the computer, etc. OR better yet unplug the monitor from its’ power source).
  2. If available, use a can of compressed air to remove any dust particles.  Believe it or not, dust particles can causing scratches.
  3. Use a lint free (microfiber) soft cloth, similar to what you use to clean eyeglasses with, to remove dust particles.
  4. If necessary dampen the cloth with “water” (recommend 50/50 distilled water and vinegar mix), and gently wipe the screen off.  Do Not use commercial cleaners, as they contain damaging chemicals; and, again do not use paper towels or tissues (can scratch the screen).
  5. Post a sign, “Touch my screen and you’re a goner!”  For some reason, some people have to be all “touchy feely” with monitors.  Flat panel screens are not designed to be touched (unless it is a touch screen monitor, tablet, smartphone, etc…).

    NOTE:
These same steps can be used to clean devices that are designed to be touched (such as smartphones, tablets, touch screen monitors, etc…)

If your flat panel monitor is really dirty, there are commercial LCD, LED, Plasman monitor cleaning solutions and micro-fiber cloths available at most office supply stores.

GEEK SQUEAKS – Run Bluestacks App Player On Your PC To Test Android Apps

Want to create an Android environment on your PC to run your favorite Android apps?  You can, with Bluestacks App Player.

 Bluestacks App Player

I have been using this to test the Android Apps I come across prior to installing on my Android Devices (tablets and smartphones) or recommending them here on the blog.

The Bluestacks App Player installs just like any other Windows software. Once installed you can connect the Google Play Store or the Amazon App Store, as you would with any other Android device. I have found it to run very smoothly. You have option to run the player in a window or full screen.

It is also available for the Mac OSX platform, as well.

GEEK SQUEAK: A Social Media Dashboard Application For Managing Your Twitter Activity

imageTo be honest, I have avoided the social media circuits, until recently… A good friend of mine introduced me to Twitter and I started messing around with it and discovered that there is a whole lot you can do with Twitter other than tweeting.

Furthermore, to bring all that Twitter has to offer, I came across their online dashboard client application, called TweetDeck, that gives you the ability to take all of those tweets, mentions, messages, lists, trends, favorites, search results, and hashtags; and, display them in a series of customizable columns.

TweetDeck

Since I am just getting into Twitter (and still learning), I discovered that TweetDeck has been around for awhile (since 2008) and I’m just behind the times.  Regardless, I thought I would post this as a geek squeak and hopefully one of my readers who is a Twitter addict may say, “I did not know about this!”…

If you have a Twitter account, GO HERE to setup your very own TweetDeck.

Oh, be sure to FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER to get the latest geek squeaks and other neat stuff I come across…

Note to my readers: I am trying something NEW where I am taking my geek squeaks’ name and using it to post short renditions of things (called “squeaks”) that I come across that I think you will find interesting. “Twitter has Tweets, What On My PC has (Geek) Squeaks…”

If you are new to Windows 8 (or 8.1) I am sure at some point you began searching for the shutdown or restart button and had a dickens of a time locating it. Even after you do locate it, you are thinking this is not very convenient. Well… There is a solution and the solution showed up in my Twitter feed this morning from The Windows Club.

They have put together and easy to follow tutorial that will walk you through the process of creating shortcuts for various power option menus in Windows – shortcut to shut down, restart, log off and suspend your Windows computers easily….  CHECK IT OUT HERE

For example, using the tip they provided I created a shortcut to shut down my Windows 8 PC and then pinned the shortcut to my taskbar (which makes it real convenient).

Sync Box, Google Docs, Evernote and More With SocialFolders

If you use Box (online file storage service) and Google Docs, then you are well aware that there is no easy way to sync your online files (and folders) with your computer; UNTIL NOW!

SocialFolders

I came across an online service called SocialFolders where you can sync your files at Box, Google Docs and more (such as Evernote) from one location. You can also transfer files from one service to another and the cool part is that it acts just like any other folder you are accustomed to in Windows explorer. SocialFolders performs the sync tasks in the background while you are working on your computer giving you an automated way of backing up your files (online and offline). – (see video below)

SocialFolders enables you to sync (nerdy word for synchronize) the Windows Explorer with your online accounts: social networks, photo sharing applications, online storage services, etc.

Syncing means that the content of your websites will be updated when you update it in your local folders, and vice-versa.

To get started using Social Folders:

  • Download and Run the install package and follow the instructions.
  • Once SocialFolders is installed, a dialog box will appear inviting you to sign up. Fill in the required information and the application will launch automatically.
  • Right click on the SocialFolders icon in the systray to get started with SocialFolders.

image

  • At this point you can select the services you desire to sync with.

SocialFolders currently supports Facebook, Flickr, Google Docs, Instagram, Photobucket, SmugMug, Box, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter. Appears SkyDrive support may be in the works… From what I can tell, it appears that SocialFolders allows you to sync up to three services with the free version.

Note that YouTube allows only uploads, whereas Instagram allows only download. All the other services work both ways.
